ESL Summer Programs 2025
First select the session and submit application no later than two weeks before start date.
Western New Mexico University Intensive English Program is designed for international Students looking to improve their skill of learning English as a second Language. Our course objective is to aid the learner to strengthen the grammatical structure of the English language. To aid in achieving a clear and accurate communication as an English speaker. Our programs focus on intensive practice of the English language in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

International students can participate in a specialized class for 1 hour per day 5 days a week.

For your Student Visa
Once you complete your application our admissions team will grant you a DS-2019 designation that you will bring to your local consulate. For full details, follow this link.
Western New Mexico University does not require any vaccinations.
Upon arrival to Silver City
Each student is responsible for making arrangements to and from their point of origin to point of destination to Silver City, New Mexico.
Options for travel:
- fly into El Paso International Airport (ELP) or into the Juarez International Airport (CJS).
- fly into either Albuquerque, New Mexico or Phoenix, Arizona then connect to the Grant County Airport located approximately 22 miles from Silver City.
- NOTE: This would require that you inform our office that you will be utilizing this destination in order for us to provide transportation to our campus.

Please notify our office 48 hours prior to your arrival. We suggest you submit a planned travel itineraries of your travels and Port of Entry.

Each group or individual will be given information of the cost of their particular program prior to arrival on campus. Remember not all groups are coming for the same purpose. Depending on how payment is made there will be a small admission fee associated with your form of payment.

Regarding your arrival date and length of you session please pack accordingly:

- Winter clothing, a winter jacket (If coming during our winter months of October – December).
- Spring and Summer a lite jacket may be needed at night.
- School supplies (text books or materials are provided for most sessions)
- Towels and toiletries
- USA power plug converter
- Laptop or tablet, if you have one
While you are here
Remember to carry your documents on your person not in your luggage. Always be aware that you do not misplace your documents.
Intensive sessions are based on six levels of instruction. Special courses run for four weeks, 40 hours (Intensive) or 30 hours (Semi-Intensive) per week.
Prospective participants are administered an entrance assessment to determine the individual’s level of understanding. With this information the participant is then placed on one of the six levels of instruction. Programs will cover:
- Grammar
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking
- Listening abilities
Upon successful completion of the Intensive English program, students may transfer into a university academic program or return home.
